Senior Exit Interview

Tumwater School District has a board policy and procedures on graduation requirements. In short, students are responsible for completing the following:

State Requirements

  • High School and Beyond Plan
  • Credit & Subject Area Requirements
  • Graduation Pathway

The Washington State Board of Education oversees high school diploma requirements in Washington State. More information about Graduation Requirements can be found on their graduation year and family websites.

In addition to state graduation requirements, Tumwater School District has also established local requirements that are required of students graduating from Tumwater School District.

Local Requirements

The final piece of your graduation requirements with Tumwater School District concludes with a Senior Exit Interview, to be completed at the end of the student’s senior year.

Prior to scheduling their Exit Interview, each student will:

  • Complete all components of their High School & Beyond Plan
    • Class of 2026 Running Start students do not need to complete their Homeroom HSBP tasks IF they have passed CCS 101 AND CCS 103 or CCS 104
  • Complete 30 hours of documented community outreach
  • Complete a resume, including three professional references

Senior Exit Interview Overview

The Senior Exit Interview is a 20-minute reflective conversation in which graduating seniors discuss their high school experience and articulate their post-graduation plans before a panel of adult evaluators.

Interview Format

Students will deliver a brief presentation followed by a question-and-answer session with the panel. The panel consists of a teacher and a community member. Students may also invite an advocate—a supportive adult of their choosing—to join the panel. Please note that this represents a change from previous years: while advocates were formerly required, they are now optional. Students are welcome to include an advocate if they wish to do so.

Evaluation

The Senior Exit Interview is evaluated on a pass/fail basis using a straightforward rubric. Students who demonstrate genuine effort and engagement will successfully complete this graduation requirement.
