Credit & Subject Area Requirements

Credit Requirements

Washington requires public high school students to complete a minimum of 24 credits to graduate from the following areas:

  • 4 English

  • 3 Math

  • 3 Science

  • 3 Social Studies

  • 2 Art - **1 credit may be a Personalized Pathway Requirement (PPR)

  • 2 World Language - **Both credits may be a Personalized Pathway Requirement (PPR)

  • 2 Health & Fitness

  • 1 Career & Technical Education (CTE)

  • 4 Electives

  • 3 Personalized Pathway Requirement (PPR)**

**Personalized Pathway Requirements (PPR) are electives in any subject that align with the student’s interests and their High School and Beyond Plan. The arts and world language credits can be replaced with other electives (including CTE courses), based on the student’s plan.

Additional Subject Area Requirements

  • Washington State History (usually taken in 8th grade and not included in the 24 credit requirement)
