New Superintendent Selected - Welcome Dr. Sean Dotson

On February 28, 2019, the Tumwater School District Board of Directors unanimously selected Dr. Sean Dotson as the next Superintendent of Tumwater School District. He will officially begin his duties on July 1st, and will spend some time in the district prior to his start date as part of a transition plan that is still being developed.

Sean Dotson has been serving as the Associate Superintendent of Cheney Public Schools since 2012. His experience includes serving as an elementary principal, high school and middle school assistant principal, and English Language Arts high school teacher. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Secondary English from Eastern Washington University, Master’s degree from Eastern Washington University, obtained his Superintendent’s Credentials from Washington State University, and his Doctorate from Washington State University.

Sean spent many of his young years in the Elma area. He and his family have deep ties to the Pacific Northwest and they are eager to relocate to the Tumwater area. When asked “Why Tumwater?”, Sean shared, “Tumwater stood out as a community with a rich history of quality schools that benefit from outstanding community support. These are important qualities in a successful school district and are some of the qualities that make it seem a great fit. My family and I are excited to relocate to Tumwater. I am eager to have my children in Tumwater schools and they are, as well. We have always loved the area and are excited to call it home in the very near future. While I know there is work ahead, I am excited to partner together with the students, staff, parents and community to help take Tumwater into the next chapter of their story.”

Board President Jay Wood notes, “Dr. Dotson stood out among candidates with his extensive background in education at all levels: elementary, middle, high, and administrative. He is highly regarded among those he works with and is respected for his integrity and his leadership style. The entire School Board is excited to welcome him as the next leader of Tumwater School District. We anticipate that our students, staff, parents and community will welcome him and his family with open arms as he works for the good of all of our students!”
