Khalia Davis Takes Oath of Office as Our Newest School Board Member

We are happy to welcome Khalia Davis to the School Board of Directors for Tumwater School District. On February 14, 2019, Khalia took the Oath of Office for the vacant District #5 position that was vacated by long-time member Janine Ward. She will fill the position until the November 2019 election.

Khalia is the proud parent of a kindergartener in our district, wife, former teacher, and attorney. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of Washington, and received her Juris Doctor from Mitchell Hamline College of Law (formerly William Mitchell College of Law) in St. Paul, Minnesota. Khalia’s teaching experience includes elementary ESL, 6th grade social studies, and 7th grade ESL math.  In her former position as ssistant Attorney General in Tumwater for the Labor and Personnel Division, she was directly involved with employment issues, collective bargaining agreements, and other legislative matters. Since 2016, Khalia has been working as the Compliance Manager in the Washington State Department of Transportation’s Office of Equal Opportunity. That office ensures equity and diversity in all federally funded transportation projects across the state.

When asked why she was seeking this appointment, she responded, “I believe that learning is a continuous process. I wanted to join this Board to collaborate with fellow Board members and our community to come up with effective strategies so that EVERY student has opportunity to rise to high academic expectations.” She also expressed her eagerness to proactively establish a shared and collaborative vision for all of the schools in Tumwater with the Board.

Welcome, Khalia!
