Current Transfer Information

As in previous years, the Tumwater School District is accepting requests for transfer students and is appreciative of the value you place on what Tumwater has to offer. As the Tumwater community continues to grow, so does the number of students living within our attendance zones requiring service at our schools.
While we will continue to accept transfer request forms, in order to maintain appropriate class sizes for our students and teachers, some applications will be approved and others will be denied consistent with our policies and procedures for transfer students. In some cases, waiting lists will be developed for those receiving denial notices where space may become available prior to the start of school. Parents/guardians considering a transfer request are encouraged to review our district transfer policies and procedures, which are posted on the Tumwater School District website at:
The following application periods have been established to organize the processing of transfer requests for the 2019-20 school year:
JANUARY 22, 2019 - HIGH SCHOOL-RENEWAL and NEW REQUESTS
We will begin accepting request forms for students who will be in grades 9-12 wanting to renew (currently attending on an approved transfer during the 18/19 school year) as well those students who are not currently attending a Tumwater school on January 22, 2019. For students living outside the Tumwater School District, please have your student released from their resident district and submit the completed form to the Tumwater District Office at 621 Linwood Avenue SW.
MARCH 4, 2019 - MIDDLE AND ELEMENTARY-RENEWAL and NEW REQUESTS
We will begin accepting request forms for students who will be in grades K-8 wanting to renew (currently attending on an approved transfer during the 18/19 school year) as well as those students who are not currently attending a Tumwater school on March 4, 2019. For students living outside the Tumwater School District, please have your student released from their resident district and submit the completed form to the Tumwater District Office at 621 Linwood Avenue SW.

The district is required by law to make a decision regarding each transfer request 45 days from the date it was submitted to the District Office. You will receive notification of the decision in the mail approximately 60 days from the date you submitted your request form and it will have one of the following checked: 1. Your student has been approved to attend at the requested school for the 2019-2020 school year. 2. Your student has been denied attendance at the requested school for the 2019-2020 school year. A reason for denial will be listed. One of those reasons could be that there is not space at that grade at that school to serve someone who does not reside within the attendance zone. 3. Your student has been denied for attendance at the requested school. However, a waiting list has been created based upon application date-stamps, as we monitor any fluctuation in enrollment through the spring and summer. It is also possible that additional classes could be added this spring or summer if waiting lists are large enough and classroom space is available. If space becomes available, parents on the waiting list will be contacted by the school or district, consistent with district policies/procedures, until classes are full. Families who have been denied but placed on a waiting list should enroll at their resident school.
