New Executive Director to take over New Market July 1

title

New Market Skills Center is pleased to announce that Matt Ishler has been selected as its next Executive Director. Mr. Ishler is a graduate of Western Washington University, receiving his Principal’s Certificate, his Masters of Education in Education Administration, and most recently his Superintendent’s Credential.

Since 2007, Mr. Ishler has served as Principal for Rochester High School and HEART Alternative High School. During this time, Rochester High School’s recognitions include WA State STEM Lighthouse School Designation, U.S. News & World Report Bronze Medal School, and WA State School of Distinction, while HEART High School received the WA Achievement Council “Exemplary” School Rating. Mr. Ishler has served on the Math Science Partnership Consortium Administrative Team, RSD Avid District Team, WA State Leadership Academy, and has been a District-Wide Presenter on Academic Rigor in the Classroom. Previously, Mr. Ishler was the Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at Monroe High School. Prior to that, he held positions as the Assistant Principal & CTE Director at Lynden High School, and was a CTE instructor.

In his letter to the hiring committee, Mr. Ishler stated, “The duties of a school administrator are challenging and complex. As a sitting principal, I have watched closely as the landscape has changed over the years. Career and Technical Education has always been something I value greatly. As a teacher, I was a CTE instructor, and I believe I am well prepared to lead New Market Skills Center. A different, but still important aspect of my experience is networking and collaboration with community and state organizations. I have presented with colleagues, with students, and alone. I have presented to local chambers of commerce, senate subcommittees, state organizations, and at professional conferences. In addition, I have served as a member of the advisory board for Evergreen State College’s teacher preparation program and I recently ended my eight-year tenure on the state board for the secondary component of Association of Washington School Principals. I also serve as a board member for the Washington Council for High School College Relations.”

After a highly competitive interview process, the hiring committee confidently recommended Matt Ishler as an excellent fit for New Market Skills Center based upon his diversity of experiences as a High School Principal and CTE Director, as well as the strong recommendations from prior supervisors and colleagues.

Mr. Ishler will begin his new position July 1st and replaces current New Market Skills Center Executive Director Kris Blum, who will be retiring.
