  • Student Stability, Safety & Sobriety survey

November 21, 2019 Dear Bush Community, Our students are our top priority. We want every child to be healthy, happy, and empowered to pursue a bright future. However, in recent years, we have seen a negative trend concerning some of our students overall health and safety. One way we assess how students are doing is via their anonymous responses to the Healthy Youth Survey. Unfortunately, the results have shown an increase in youth substance use, self-harm, and poor decision-making. We want to stop this trend in its tracks. In response to our student needs, we are working with several community partners, such as Together and Community Schools. We have also created a coalition which will focus on student stability, safety, and sobriety. Through the work of this coalition, we aim to inspire hope, improve health, and foster responsibility. One way you can help us in this venture is to provide your input via the survey below. The more staff, parent, and community feedback we can obtain, the better our improvements will be. Please take some time this week to help us make BMS a place where every student feels safe, important, and equipped to make lifelong healthy choices. Thank you for your support. • SAFETY REMINDER

It has come to our attention that some of our students have been leaving school grounds after they arrive on campus. BMS is a closed campus. Once your student arrives on Bush Middle School grounds (or TSD property, to include a school bus), it is unsafe for them to leave without adult supervision. Whether they arrive on campus by bus, are dropped off by a parent/guardian, ride a bike, or walk to school, once students arrive on school grounds, they need to stay here! (For more information, refer to the BMS Student Handbook, p. 10 Closed Campus.) Please talk to your student about the possible dangers associated with leaving campus without adult supervision!
