I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and received a full athletic scholarship to swim and attend school at the University of Arizona. After receiving my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education as a wildcat, I taught third grade for eight years at Bidwell Elementary in Antioch, California. While teaching I earned my Masters of Science at California State University, Hayward, in education with a focus on children's literature and reading. My family (husband and two daughters, Erin and Faith) moved to Olympia in 1993 and fell in love with the area. My first position in this district was at Tumwater West Education Center (juvy). This is where I decided I connected well with older children and made it my goal to teach high schoolers! I then was hired at Black Hills High School to teach German and English. After a few years, I was involuntarily transferred to Tumwater due to retirements there. I have been at THS for the past 16 years. My interests include hiking with my husband, Eric, and two chihuahuas Mama and Tanner, spending time with my daughters and grandbabies, reading, and making a positive difference in the world.
