How it Works at TVA
Tumwater Virtual Academy (TVA) offers flexible and customized learning for Tumwater area students and families. TVA creates community connections by providing a high-quality online learning experience with local Tumwater School District Teachers. Teacher interaction and daily lessons are conducted online and many lessons use physical materials provided by K12/Fuel Ed. As a public school, TVA is tuition-free.
Tumwater Teachers, Exceptional Curriculum
At TVA, all students interact with one or more Tumwater School District teachers (depending on the grade level). Some history and elective courses are taught by K12 teachers. Students communicate regularly with their teachers through e-mail, telephone and online meetings. TVA provides each family with the quality instructional materials necessary to complete schoolwork from home, including a wide variety of textbooks and hands-on resources. Each student is provided a Chromebook to use while enrolled. In addition, all students have access to specialists, including school counselors, special education teachers, EL teachers and others.
Dedicated School Support System
TVA also provides a dedicated support system to both parents and students. Working closely with the teacher, the parent (or other responsible adult) serves as a “Learning Coach” to the child, helping facilitate his or her progress and working to modify the pace and schedule as needed. In addition, the TVA school community keeps in close contact.
Personalized Learning, Public School Accountability
In addition to providing personalized learning, as an online public school within the Tumwater School District, TVA provides the structure, administrative support, oversight, accountability and state testing required of all public schools.
What about students with Special Needs?
TVA is dedicated to identifying eligible students who need to receive an appropriate educational program consisting of special education and related services which will meet their identified needs.
