Technology Teacher on Special Assignment
I started teaching in 2001 as a Substitute Teacher in the Tumwater School District. I received my Teaching Certificate in 2004 from the University of Washington. In the fall of 2004, I taught at the Mariah Art School in Olympia, Washington, developing a program of mulit media arts. In 2005, I was hired by Woodbrook Middle School in Lakewood, Washington, to develop a Band Program from scratch. By my 2nd year, we had 6th-8th grade band programs and an orchestra program. In 2007, I flipped my classroom for guitar and bass players in concert band by creating a YouTube channel for the school band. From 2005-2010, I integrated technology into the instrumental music program, where students learned how to create compositions using software and how to produce their own videos. In the fall of 2010, I transitioned into the role as the Library Media Specialist at Greenwood Elementary on Joint Base Lewis McChord, Washington. This position furthered my professional growth in developing programs and creating learning environments that integrate technology to promote student achievement, assessment, and growth. I joined the district's Technology Steering Committee in 2011 to collaborate with staff across the district to create solutions on technologies in our school. I partnered with community organizations to generate funding and in-kind support for the school's learning community. I developed an instrumental music program for students in grades 3-5. I Received my National Board Teaching Certificate in Library Media in 2013.
I was hired by Tumwater Schools to be their Technology TOSA (Teacher on Special Assignment) for Secondary Schools, starting in August of 2014. During my first year, I got to know staff across the district and assess the needs for professional development around instructional technology in the Middle, High, and Alternative High Schools in the Tumwater School District. I am interested in connecting with creative minds and folks with grit.
