Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! I am excited to join the Tumwater Middle School staff. This marks my 14th year of teaching, having spent the past eleven years at Michael T. Simmons. In addition to teaching at TMS, I am an assistant football coach and the head boys basketball coach. I graduated from Central Washington University with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Special Education. I also received a Master's in Education from City University of Seattle with an emphasis in Curriculum, Technology, and Instruction. The Tumwater School District adopted Illustrative Math, which I had the opportunity to pilot this past school year. The lead writer of the curriculum, Bill McCallum, was also a lead writer of the Common Core Math. What a great opportunity for our students! Here is to a new curriculum adventure this year! I look forward to working with and getting to know each of the sixth grade families this year. If you have any questions or concerns during the school year, please feel free to call, e-mail, or stop in.
I am married and have three wonderful children, with baby number 4 arriving in late October/early November. My wife, Robyn, is also a teacher. My daughters, Makenzie(9) and Madeleine (7), both attend Michael T. Simmons. My son, Rocky, turned 2 in April. I am a huge sports enthusiast, both playing and watching. I grew up playing football, baseball, basketball, and running track. I played baseball through college, and as an adult, I continue to play men's fastpitch softball. In the summer of 2016, I was inducted into the North American Fastpitch Association's Hall of Fame. I also enjoy coaching my daughters in youth sports (Tumwater Parks and Rec and Thurston County Fastpitch Association).
