  • Fun Friday Challenge

A lot of Eagles took the oppunity to try to figure out my Math Challenge from last week. Great job Eagles! This week my challenge comes with a hint. Place value is SO important when you are doing math problems, especially if your favorite stategies include standard althorigms. Try turning your paper on its side. This way you suddenly have perfect columns to write problems in. What?

    Math 1

    INSTEAD

     Math 2

Now for the challenge: What is the biggest addition and/or subtraction problem you can do using this sideways Math hint? Try it out and send me a pic of your work @ holly.coty@tumwater.k12.wa.us

How could we expand this idea of arrays? I have so many ideas!

  • Millie

    Millie Virus Hashtag Picture

So many of you amazingly kind Eagles have been asking and wondering how Millie is doing. She has been doing great! She's a very happy and healthy puppy now. Millie has been having lots of fun playing with her dog family and her people. She loves snuggling Sparky Boy and chewing on her toys. She takes big puppy naps while waiting for her people to finish their schoolwork and is eating all the yummy food she can! This is a great time to remind all her PGS Eagle friends to #stayhomestayhealthy. She doesn't want to see any humans get a virus like she did. Have a great day Eagles and don't forget to be awesome!

  • How Do I Get On I-Ready At Home?

Great question! I-Ready is one of the many ways that we can differntiate learning for our students here at PGS. While logging in at school can seem super easy, some have found it hard to do so at home. Here are some steps to remember-

    Begin at Google

Students will sign into their Student Google Account.

    Student Username: first.last.29@stu.tumwater.k12.wa.us

** Numbers before the @ are specific to graduation years and will vary by grade level. If a name is longer than 8 letters, the last letters are NOT included. If a name is hyphenated, use only the part before the dash. There are no capitals or spaces.

Student Password: student ID number with a "t" in front of it.

**If your student does not know this number, it is on Skyward under the Student Info tab.

Once logged in, Clever will pull up the student tech page and you can access I-ready from there along with other programs.

Remember lessons are differentiated based on the latest diagnostic testing given. Have fun Eagles!

  • Our Routine 2019-2020

Posted by Holly Coty on 8/27/2018

Fridays are always ACT days in our district so it looks a little compressed. We still cover the same subjects in the same general order. We do get out a little earlier at 1:55 p.m. on Fridays.

About Your Teacher

My name is Mrs. Coty and I have been a third grade teacher here at Peter G. Schmidt Elementary since 2016!

As a child growing up in Oklahoma, I realized pretty early on that I wanted to be a teacher. Teachers are awesome people and I like being awesome. It just made sense! I have been working with children both in and out of classrooms ever since.

Before becoming an educator here in Tumwater, I worked for the Centralia School District teaching 7th and 8th grade science. I really have a heart for this subject area and love watching students learning through science. Another favorite subject area for me is reading. You can learn so much once you can read and comprehend what you are reading. It does take skills, like the ones we work on in our classroom, but you can literally learn anything through reading.

I have an AA from Centralia College and a B.A. from Washington State University. Go COUGS!

My world outside of the classroom is made up of my two wonderful daughters who both attend Tumwater schools. As a family we enjoy swimming, reading, visiting family and traveling as much as we can. This last summer we went to Yellowstone National Park and it was lovely.
