Strategic Plan Overview
Our Mission
Continuous Student Learning in a Caring, Engaging Enviroment
Our Promise
Every student is known by name, strength and need, and is prepared for the future they envision.
Each day our staff of just over 800 employees carries out our mission to provide “Continuous Student Learning in a Caring, Engaging Environment.” Our 2025-2030 Strategic Plan was created during the 2024-2025 school year to begin implementation this fall. You can learn more about the development process by clicking this link (strategic plan development). Our academic focus is to help each child succeed by setting achievement goals and then using data to closely monitor progress and adjust instruction. To do this, we encourage and support staff collaboration and professional development. We strive to create a safe, supportive environment in which all students feel connected and valued while they grow academically.

Historical Creation of the Strategic Plan
(Planning Teams)
Over the course of one year, the Tumwater School District engaged in an inclusive and collaborative process to develop a district-wide Strategic Plan, supported by Performance Fact. This work involved 10 distinct planning teams, more than 2,000 participants, and 27 meetings held throughout the 2024–25 school year. During this process, students, staff, families, and community members were asked to consider three essential questions: What Portrait of a Graduate attributes do we want our students to develop and demonstrate? What measures of student progress should we track from PreK through 12th grade? And what four pillars should serve as the foundation for all district actions, decision-making, and resource allocation?
Our district is proud of this collective work. The result is a durable, community-defined framework that clearly articulates the values, aspirations, and ideals of our Tumwater community.
