Water Testing
Water Quality in School Drinking Water
Tumwater School District monitors drinking water at all district facilities following the requirements outlined in RCW 28A.210.410.
Guidelines for Water Quality Testing
We follow information and guidance from the State Department of Health for lead testing. Read more about the process at the WA State Department of Health Testing for Lead in Schools Website.
Testing drinking water for lead is a two-step process that starts with a sample test for lead accumulation in stagnant water. If the sample test/s shows levels of lead above the action level of 15 parts per billion (ppb), those fixtures are immediately shut off until they can be repaired or replaced.
Note: These levels do not equate to health effects. They are triggers that signal the need to take action to replace or otherwise mitigate fixtures and/or pipes.
Testing Results & Actions
Results that show a lead level in fixtures at 15 parts per billion or higher will be disconnected, taken out of service, and replaced.
Current test results by building (from the Health Department):
The remaining schools/facilities have been sampled or built after 2016, which does not require additional testing at this time. However, we will be reviewing the results of prior tests and determine if we will do additional testing.
