Tumwater Universal Screener for Social Emotional Learning (TUSSEL)
Each year, we use a screening tool (the "TUSSEL") with all K - 12 students to learn more about how we can support their social emotional needs. This information is especially important for a strong start in the 2020 - 2021 school year.
About the survey
The survey was developed by Tumwater staff in 2017. It was based on It has 17 questions organized into seven areas: self-awareness, self-management, self-efficacy, social awareness, social management, social engagement, and hope. The first six of these are the areas in which there are state standards for social emotional learning. Our survey is one way in which we gauge areas of focus for our work. You can view a copy of the survey questions using one of the links below. If you would like to see the survey in a language other than the ones represented, please contact Lisa Alonzo.
We are asking all students to complete the survey after logging in with their TSD Google account. Students at the elementary level may want to work with a trusted adult to answer the questions. Participation is not required. Students or families may choose not to answer any or all of the questions. Responses are confidential and are protected by federal student privacy laws. Please help us learn more and respond to student needs by completing the survey no later than October 15, 2020.
