    We are planning for New Market summer school to be a hybrid model with 4 in-person days an 1 remote day, subject to change with community health situation updates. *We are waiting on OSPI guidance for summer school to be released.  


    What are the dates and hours for summer school?

    We will have two summer school sessions this year: session 1 will be from June 28 to July 20 (no school on July 5) and session 2 will be from July 21 to August 11. School hours are 7:45 to 2:45 with the last day of each session being an early release at 10:15.  Except for the remote only programs listed in the next question, students will be in-person Monday through Thursday and Friday will be a remote learning day.

    Are there any all remote classes?

    No, all programs will have in-person class. Our Family Health/Intro to Nursing will be a hybrid model with two days a week in-person and 3 days remote. 

    How do I register for summer school?

    Summer school registration is an online application; there is not a paper application. Registration will open May 3rd. Registration is first come, first serve.

    Is there a cost to attend summer school?

    Some programs do have a program fee.  Please check the Summer School Catalog for a list of program fees.  Construction Projects does not have a fee, but students will have the option to purchase their project. 

    When are program fees due?

    Program fees for both sessions are due Friday, June 4th.  For programs that have fees, the fee must be paid by the due date to secure the student's enrollment in the program.  You may pay the fee with cash, check or debit/credit in the front office, over the phone, or online.  

    What age are students eligible to attend summer school?

    Students entering 9th grade and those still seeking their high school diploma in the fall are eligible to attend summer school. 

    How many days of summer school can a student miss?

    Students missing more than 2 days will earn a failing grade, this includes both excused and unexcused absences. 

    Will lunch be available at school?

    The deli will be open with a limited menu of items available for purchase. We are asking students who are able to provide their own lunch to please do so.  The Deli will be closed on the following days: June 28, June 29, July 20, July 21, July 22, August 10 and August 11.

    What are the check in procedures?

    Students will all check in through Building A to do their COVID screening before going to class in the morning. 

    When will summer school grades be available?

    Grades will be mailed home within two weeks after the session ends.

    Do the summer school grades appear on the high school transcript?

    Yes, according to WAC 392-415-070 any high school classes attempted must be recorded on a student’s transcript. The transcript indicates that students receive 0.5 elective or CTE credit for each summer school session. Cosmetology students earn 2.0 elective or CTE credit for the entire summer session. Credits will be sent to the student’s home high school registrar in September.

    What time do the Cosmetology summer classes run?

    The Cosmetology sites operate on a different schedule. Please contact them directly for information. Also, the Cosmetology application requires an on-line summer school application as well as a school-year application (confirmed by HS counselor) in order to continue the course into the fall.

    Are there any special pre-requisites for the classes?

    No, the summer classes do not require pre-requisite classes or tests.
