Call To Order: Justine Schmidt called the meeting to order at 6:15 pm
Welcome: Introduction of attendees and officers. Officers included: Heather York – President; Justine Schmidt – Vice President; Tara Clemmens – Secretary/Treasurer; Nancy Manley – Secretary candidate.
Approval of Minutes: The minutes of March 17, 2016 were approved as written.
Treasurer’s Report: Tara Clemmens distributed the BMS PIE Transaction Report and the Monthly Treasurer’s Report to the group. Tara reviewed the income and expenses for the year to date. The Treasurer’s Report was approved and presented.
Principal’s Report: Shawn Guthrie shared some calendar updates and highlights for April – June. He called attention to the upcoming SBAC testing the last week of April and that a Robo call would go home to parents reminding them of the test dates. April 29th is the 6th grade teacher orientation and acclimation. May 3rd is the 6th grade parent night. May 9-10th is the SBAC make up tests. May 10th is the Science SBAC. May 18th is the outdoor adventure for 8th grade leadership. May 20th is the New Market Assembly for 8th graders. May 31st and June 6th is a drama performance at BMS. June 7th is the 7th grade reward activity at Pt. Defiance. June 8th is the Band/Orchestra/Choir concert. June 13th is 6th grade transition day. June 14th is Field day, Wild Waves Day for 8th grade, and Math Day. June 16th is the last day of school, last day assembly, dance, 10:30 early dismissal, and NO BACKPACK day.
Deb Lueschen talked to the PIE group about the upcoming Math Carnival June 14th. The focus will be on statistics and probability. Students purchase tickets and play games. They would like volunteers to help set up tables.
Jeff Broome was the guest speaker to talk about how to help 8th graders successfully transition to high school. Some ideas that were talked about are communicating with 8th graders and their parents about the academic expectations, homework load, senior project, elective choices, pathways, 4 year plans, LINC Crew Day, Core 24, and Running Start.
Mr. Gunderson would like parent volunteers for the Science Fair is June 1st. He needs people to help judge the projects.
Ms. Chevalier and Ms. Siminski would like to set up a parent computer training classes to help parents become familiar with Skyward and Google Classroom. They will present their ideas at the May 19th PIE meeting.
Construction on the new building is on track. Construction will begin one week after school ends. There will be no access to classrooms during the summer.
The Box Top Collection Fund Raiser will end May 18th and all box tops are due. Volunteers are needed to count, cut, and glue the box tops to the summary sheets.
PIE is considering ideas for teacher appreciation gifts. Justine Schmidt brought up the idea of personalized clipboards.
