• Student Transfers

The school that a student attends is determined by their residential address, which must be confirmed by providing proof of  residency as requested by the school administrator.  If a student wishes to attend a school that does not serve the area of his/her residence, parents/guardians must request a transfer.  Transfer requests are approved or denied based on a number of reasons, including but not limited to, whether or not there is available space at the requested school, grade level, or requested special program to serve someone who does not live in that school's attendance zone.  The following Tumwater School Board Policies/Procedures govern the transfer process in our district.  All families wishing to transfer are encouraged to fully review these documents:

Interzone Transfer Policy (one Tumwater school to another)

Interzone Transfer Procedure (one Tumwater school to another)

Interdistrict Transfer Policy (one school district to another)

Interdistrict Transfer Procedure (one school district to another)

Transfers are granted for one school year and are not automatically renewed.  Families wishing to remain at their non-resident school must remember to apply for a transfer each year, which may or may not be approved based on district criteria.  Students without a transfer request submitted/received by the district on or before the last day of school in the current school year will be withdrawn for the following school year.

     General Information:

Enrollment trends from early Spring through late Summer require schools to ensure ample space is available for students who move into Tumwater neighborhoods.  The following chart and corresponding “key” illustrate the current status of transfer requests at each school:
