    Free & Reduced Price Meals

    Basic Food
    Basic Food, the state's food stamp program, helps people in Washington make ends meet by providing monthly benefits to buy food. Participating in Basic Food has other benefits such as:
    • Enrollment in free school meals for school-aged children (handled electronically between DSHS/OSPI and our school district database);
    • Qualification for low-cost local phone service; and
    • Shows your family meets the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) income test.

    Getting Basic Food is easy! You can apply in person at the local DSHS Community Service Office , by mail, or online. They can arrange a phone interview anytime an in-office interview is inconvenient and they can help verify any required information.

    School District Applications
    Free and reduced priced lunches may be obtained by any student -- at any time during the school year -- whose family income falls within the guidelines set by the US Department of Agriculture. Students receiving Basic Food benefits are automatically qualified through an import of an Electronic File at the beginning of the school year, and monthly thereafter during the school year.  To verify that your records have been processed, you can call the Food Services office at (360) 709-7740.

    Applications - 
    Download Here  - are mailed to all students in grades 1-6 when the TSD Calendar is sent in August. Elementary students may obtain a copy from their schooloffice.  Secondary students may obtain applications from their school office or Food Services. All application information is confidential and is used only to determine eligibility for the program. Students receiving lunches under this plan are identified only to the lunchroom cashier.
    Application can also be made online through the Skyward Family access portal.

    Applications must be submitted to Food Services through the student's school site, or by mailing directly to the Food Services Department with guardian's signature.

    Making Online Payments

    The Tumwater School District is currently offering Parent Access to the Skyward information system. This allows for a parent to view their child's Food Service account and other student information such as daily attendance and grade book. For Parent Access, a UserID and Password can be obtained from the Office Staff at your student’s school.  After parents Log-in to Family Access, online lunch account payments can be made after clicking the “Food Service” tab on the left side of the screen.
