Welcome to Mrs. Stussy's Webpage!Subjects: Honors Chemistry/Chem &121 and Nutrition ScienceProfessional Biography: I received my Bachelors and Masters of Science degrees at Central Washington University in Nutritional Science and went on to work as a Registered Dietitian for 7 years. I realized my favorite part of my job was teaching so decided to go back to school to become certified as a high school teacher. I attended Saint Martin's University for my credentials. I spent one year working at Centralia Middle School and then landed at my alma mater Tumwater High School where I have been teaching for 15 years!2020-2021 Schedule:Distance Learning Schedule:Every Day (Mon-Fri):Office Hours Daily (Monday - Friday) 7:40am-8:20am (Zoom Link can be found on Google Classroom → Classwork → Class Resources)Please use the email link above for Google Classroom codes or other correspondance!Mondays and Thursdays: All Zoom Links can be found on Google Classroom → Classwork → Class Resources1st Period: Nutrition Science (8:20am-10:00am)2nd Period: Nutrition Science (10:10am - 11:50am)3rd Period: Nutrition Science (12:30pm-2:10pm)Tuesdays and Fridays: All Zoom Links can be found on Google Classroom → Classwork → Class Resources4th Period: Planning (8:20am-10:00am)5th Period: Honors Chemistry - College in the High School Chem &121 (10:10am - 11:50am)6th Period: Honors Chemistry - College in the High School Chem &121 (12:30pm-2:10pm)Class Curriculum and Materials:For Honors Chemistry, you should check out a Chemistry textbook from the THS library. For Nutrition Science, the book is online and you will receive access from me. For all the classes I teach, materials will be distributed and submitted through Google Classroom. Every day, you will need to check the Google Classroom. Your Chromebook and additional materials will be key resources for your success. How Can I Stay Connected and Be Successful in Class? The best way to stay connected is by joining me on Zoom during our regularly scheduled class times. On Wednesdays, remember to log onto Google Classroom and following instructions there. If you ever have questions outside of our scheduled class time, I will be available during daily office hours on Zoom or by email and I am happy to set up a Zoom to talk with you individually. If you need help, just ask!!https://docs.google.com/a/tumwater.k12.wa.us/forms/d/1SIlNXFPhCl_LbTveFzxXODMhE0xarujjm1G491F_g0s/editHonors Chemistry First Week PowerpointAccelerated Physical Science AssignmentsChemistry AssignmentsOrganic Chemistry Explained Part 2: Functional GroupsSummer Homework:Welcome to Honors Chemistry for the 2017-2018 academic year. Please expect a rigorous AND vigorousworkload. We will attempt to accomplishin one semester what we do in one year of “regular” chemistry. In order to do this you must have masteryknowledge of concepts learned in THS’ Accelerated Physical Science and someadditional concepts from general chemistry. To be most prepared for this class, you should review the following chapters/sections of the Chemistry text, you will be expected to be familiar with this information because we will nottake the time in class to learn it:
Chapter 2, all sections
Chapter 3, all sections
Chapter 4, all sections
Chapter 5, section 3 (We willbegin the year with chapter 5 section 1)
Chapter 6, section 1
Chapter 7, section 1: findingvalence electrons, section 2 (be able to form ionic bonds)
Chapter 8, sections 1 and somefamiliarity of section 2 (simple covalent bonds)
Chapter 9, section 1, section 2for binary compounds not polyatomic, section 3
Chapter 11, sections 1 and 2(balancing and classifying chemical reactions)
You must check out a chemistry text book during the last two days of school (they won’t be available until then) and complete the following assignment that will be due the first day of class:
1. Describe the difference between intensive and extensive properties and give examples of each.
2. Describe the difference between heterogeneous mixtures and homogeneous mixtures and give an example of each.
