Welcome to Bush Middle School!
BUILDING HOURS: BMS school hours are 8:00 AM. to 2:30 PM. Students may arrive on campus at 7:30. No earlier, please! There is no supervision, and the building will not be open before 7:30. Students who are involved in extra-curricular activities should be picked up no later than 5:00 PM. If they are not involved in an approved and supervised after school activity, they should ride the bus home, walk home or be picked up by 2:45.
CLOSED CAMPUS: Bush Middle School is a closed campus. This means that once students arrive at school, they cannot leave before the end of the school day without a parent or guardian signing them out through the office.
SMOKING: Smoking (and the use of tobacco products) is prohibited on the BMS campus per RCW 28A.210.310. This law includes anyone who is attending any activities that are on campus and chaperoning activities that are off campus. Please assist our compliance with the law and maintaining a healthy environment.
STUDENT HANDBOOK/PLANNER: Students will receive their student planners the first day of school. The planner is a great organizational tool for all students and contains our student handbook, which has important information about Bush Middle School. There is a $6.00 cost for the planner, which should be paid at the ASB window. Parents are encouraged to regularly review the expectations with their children and examine the planners nightly for assignments.
MEALS: Our food service staff works hard to provide students with nutritious and tasty food options. Students may place money in an account in our lunchroom. Prices this year are $2.25 for a full daily lunch or $.40 for a reduced price lunch. We also have breakfast available for $1.25, or free for those who qualify for free/reduced meals.
ASB FUNDRAISER: Bush Middle School students will be selling cookie dough again this year for ASB fundraising. The proceeds from the sale go toward ASB activities, including equipment and uniforms for sports, after school specials, reward activities, etc. Watch for more information on Sept 17th, our fundraiser kick-off date.
BICYCLES AND SKATEBOARDS: Students may ride bicycles, skateboards, scooters, roller skates or rollerblades to school. Students should walk while on campus. Bicycles may not be used on campus between the hours of 7:30 AM and 5:00 PM. Bicycles should be parked and locked in the bike rack by the gym. Skateboards, scooters, roller skates or rollerblades are to be put away once you are on school property and may not be used on campus between the hours of
7:30 AM and 5:00 PM.
IF YOUR STUDENT IS ABSENT: When your student will be absent or late arriving to school, please call us before 9:00 AM. The number for our 24-hour attendance line is 709-7412.
FEES AND COSTS FOR 2010 – 2011: Bush Middle School has some fees and costs associated with its programs. Most of the programs that involve costs have voluntary participation. Below are some of the costs of the activities and programs offered at BMS during the 2010-2011school year:
Student Planner $ 6.00
PE Uniform $15.00
Exploratory Classes Free up to $10.00, depending on posted class fees
ASB Card $25.00
Athletic Participation Fee $30.00 per season (Excluding dance)
(If you are financially unable to pay required fees, please contact Terry Clark, our ASB Secretary, at 709-7422. Financial hardship will not prevent students from athletic participation.)
HAT POLICY/DRESS CODE: Students are not allowed to wear hats or bandanas/scarves at Bush Middle School. The dress code for BMS will be reviewed with the students during the first week of school. Parents are encouraged to periodically review the expectations with their children.
EARLY DISMISSALS: Students leaving early from school must be signed out by a parent or guardian in the office before the student leaves campus. Sending a note with the student if you are picking them up early helps us prepare them for their departure. Students cannot be released to any person who is not listed in the student’s information record.
VISITORS ON CAMPUS: All visitors to the campus must sign in at the office and receive a “Visitor” pass. This helps us maintain a safe and healthy campus and reduces distractions and disruptions to classes. If you wish to visit a classroom or a teacher, please make an appointment prior to your visit.
LOCKERS: Individual lockers are assigned to all students. Students may not use personal locks on the lockers; they will be issued one from the school.
EMERGENCY INFORMATION: If there are any changes to your home or work phone numbers, addresses, emergency contacts or other student information, please stop by the office and help us update your son’s or daughter’s records. Up-to-date information is critical for good communication and in emergency situations.
EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS: To support our efforts to be prepared for possible emergencies, students will be asked to bring a few essential items from home to be stored at BMS. Please look for a letter outlining these basic emergency supplies the first week of school.
We are looking forward to working together to make this a great year!
