Tumwater Hill Elementary

Dear Parents:

We are safety conscience when it comes to our kids.  I know that it might seem that we are overly cautious but we think long and hard about the best ways to keep our kids safe. Here are some guidelines that we use to insure the safety of our students.

Checking Identification:

You may be asked to show identification when picking up a student, visiting, or volunteering at school.  Once you are familiar to our office staff this will no longer be a need.  Only people on the students contact list will be allowed to volunteer or have access to our kids.  If you know that there is someone not on the list that wants to volunteer please call ahead of time and let us know.

Authorization

We can only release students to people who are on the registration form as a contact.  If someone shows  up and asks for a student and isn’t on the form we will make calls to the guardians of these students to make sure that it is alright for us to place the student in these folk’s care.  It works best if you call ahead with the name of the person coming to collect someone.

Deliveries

When bringing something to school like birthday treats or homework please bring these items to the office.  We will either deliver them for you or have you put on a visitor’s badge so you can deliver them you self. Please do not go to classrooms or the playground during school hours without checking in at the office.

Checking students out of school

This is probably the hardest one for us.  We often have parents who call and want their student waiting for them in the office to be picked up.  Unfortunately, in these times of cell phones, what we worry about is a non-custodial parent, or a person with ill intent, calling us from the court yard or a car parked out front and asking for a student to be sent to the office to wait for them and taking advantage of the fact that the student will be walking from the classroom areas to the office.  While the chances of this are remote we are just not willing to take the risk.  So please be patient with us when we tell you that you have to be present before we will call a student out of class.

Being on campus

If you are going to be on campus please check in at the office even if your visit is a short one.

Thanks as always for your help and cooperation with this.
