Tumwater High School

Tumwater High School Improvement Plan

Below you will see both goals and strategies that our school is using to try to reach them. The goals are determined by federal No Child Left Behind legislation. In each category there is a designated percentage of students that must pass the state test in order to meet the goal. Starting in 2002 the percentage of students not meeting standard was required to decline significantly every third year. The schedule ends with the requirement that all students meet state standards by 2014.

Goal Area 1: Reading
Reading goal: 92.48 % of 10th grade students will meet the state standard, as measured by the state reading assessment by 2011 reading strategies
• Students are grouped based on achievement level for language arts instruction.
• Student progress toward meeting state standards is assessed on a regular basis.
• Assessment results are examined by instructional teams. Strategies are revisited based on the results.
• Teachers receive classroom support and professional development.
• Additional courses are offered for intervention as well as enrichment.
• Teachers are working together to determine what is taught and how assignments, assessments and grading are handled in each class, so that there is consistency in course offerings. This is also called standards based grading.

Goal Area 2: Mathematics

Math Goal: 87.2% of 10th grade students wi ll meet state standard, as measured by the state math assessment by 2011.
Math Strategies
