Program Description:  This program offers a unique opportunity for Secondary Options students to take online courses for high school credit.  Students are required to attend class every school day on the Tumwater School District calendar unless distance learning arrangements are made with the instructor. 

 

Grading:  All Apex courses will be graded as Pass/Fail at the end of the course/semester.

**You can “test out” of any unit you feel competent in by taking the “diagnostic” and earning a minimum of 80%.  There is no penalty for failing a diagnostic.  Diagnostics must be proctored and taken at the beginning of the unit.

Break:  New Market Skills Center is a closed campus.  Students may take their break in the classroom or the commons area by the deli.  Tobacco products of any kind are NOT allowed on campus. 

 

Bathroom Policy:  Students may use the restroom one at a time, taking the bathroom pass.

 

Behavior:  Professional behavior is required.  This means no shouting, inappropriate language, or running in the classroom. Snacks and drinks are allowed.  No Liquids are to be thrown in the trash.  If you can’t finish something, either take it with you or pour it down a sink.

 

Dress Code:  Students must follow district rules – see New Market Skills Center  Handbook(online)

 

Electronics Policy:  Cell phones are not to be used in the classroom. MP3 players are only allowed if used with headphones and not disturbing others.

 

Attendance Policy:  Any student more than ten minutes late to class will be marked tardy unexcused.  Five unexcused tardies will result in a parent/guardian contact and lunch detention.  Absences can be excused by contacting Ms. Leslie within 48 hours (2 days!)

 

Adult Status:  Students who are 18 and have been officially been granted adult status may be allowed to leave class for approved reasons, such as appointments.  Abusing this privilege will lead to referral to administrators.
