Tumwater High School

What is Running Start?
Running Start allows 11th and 12th grade students to take college level courses while enrolled in high school. Credit earned at the college will transfer back to the high school and can count toward high school graduation requirements. For more detailed program information, print off our SPSCC Informational Brochure: http://www.spscc.ctc.edu/sites/spscc/upload/filemanager/Programs/Pre-College/running-start/RS-informational-brochure.pdf.

Who is eligable?
Any student eligible for junior or senior status (11th or 12th grade) is eligible for Running Start. This includes public school, private school and home school students. Eligibility is determined by class standing and qualifying for ENGL 101 on the ACCUPLACER placement test at the college. Class standing is determined by the high school or district the student is enrolled in.

Who pays the tuition for college classes?
Tuition on courses above the 100 level and up to 15 credits are paid for by the high school district based on the Running Start Funding Limits Table: http://www.spscc.ctc.edu/sites/spscc/upload/filemanager/Programs/Pre-College/running-start/RS-Funding-Table.pdf . Tuition on courses under the 100 level and over the funding limits are paid by the student.

What costs are there to the Running Start Program?
While students can save significantly on tuition costs, the Running Start program is not free to students. There are costs incurred by the student based on the number of credits they enroll in at the college. Please see the How Much Does Running Start Cost? handout: http://www.spscc.ctc.edu/sites/spscc/upload/filemanager/Programs/Pre-College/running-start/SPSCC-Running-Start-Costs.pdf for more detailed information.
